Matthew Lyons is a 21 year old student, studying illustration and animation at Loughborough University in England. When I first saw his work I thought that they were old peices of artwork by an older artist with years of experience. His work is very stylized with a strong retro feel to them and look as if they were produced in the 60s or 70s.
Matthew works digitally but uses custom brushes to to give his work a traditional hand painted look. He acheives his vintage look by applying paper or card textures to his work. He has a good eye for composition and colour and I particularly like the use of typography in these pieces.
The artwork featured here is a series of movie title screens, for fake movies. These pieces of work may be for movies that don't exist but they manage to set the scene and tell a story none the less.
